How the programme reaches the institutions

The Nodal Institution

In view of its standing and coordinating capacity, one higher educational institution in each State or Union Territory is designated as the Nodal Higher Educational Institution. It identifies up to 50 higher educational institutions within its State or Union Territory and coordinates their participation, with due regard to geographical spread and institutional representation. It nominates a senior officer as the State/UT Nodal Officer, forwards the list of institutions identified, coordinates nomination and registration, facilitates the qualifying examination and the orientation, and monitors the timely completion of the activities.

Nomination and registration

Each participating institution assesses its interested students on the Thirukkural, selects one student on merit and nominates them with one Faculty Supervisor/Guide. The nomination is endorsed by the Director, Registrar, Principal or Head of the Institution, and the institution registers the selected student on this portal.

Selection

On the basis of the institution-level assessments and the prescribed selection process, 1,000 students are selected, with appropriate State-wise and language-wise representation.

Campus activities and report

Participating institutions may also organise academic and cultural activities based on the Thirukkural, such as essay writing, quizzes, debates, elocution, recitation, storytelling, poster-making and presentations, for wider student engagement. A brief report on the activities undertaken is submitted to CICT and the Ministry in the prescribed format.
