The Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT), Chennai respects the privacy of every visitor and applicant. This portal collects personal information only to conduct Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0 – Thirukkural Payilvom: registration, verification, the online test, selection, the stipend, the orientation, the research papers and the certificates.

When you visit the portal

• No personal information is asked for to read the portal. There is no advertising, and no tracking or analytics service of any other company.
• For the security of the portal, the server records the network address (IP address) of the computer that sends each request, the page asked for, and the time.
• The count of visitors shown at the foot of every page is kept as numbers for each day. Who visited is not stored.

Cookies

The portal sets two cookies. Both are needed for it to work, and neither is used to follow you on other websites.

• session keeps you signed in, protects the forms against misuse, and holds your place in a classroom quiz. It ends when you close the browser, or at the latest some hours after a sign-in.
• lang remembers the language you chose, for one year.

Information you give

• At registration: your name, gender, date of birth, category, disability, mobile and WhatsApp numbers, e-mail and postal address; the name and details of your institution and your programme of study; your mother tongue, the language you choose for the test and the orientation, and your knowledge of Tamil and the Thirukkural; the name, designation, e-mail and mobile number of your Faculty Supervisor/Guide; your photograph, an ID proof and the nomination form signed by the head of your institution.
• Later: your answers and score in the online test; your research paper and its review.
• Selected students only: bank account details for the stipend, and the Aadhaar number when it is asked for.
• Others: the messages sent through the contact form. Players of a classroom quiz give only a name, which is deleted with their answers after 30 days.

How the information is used

To verify applications, conduct the online test, select the student delegates, contact applicants by e-mail and phone, pay the stipend, issue letters and certificates, and report on the programme. The merit list shows the name and institution of each student, as agreed at registration.

Who receives it

The information is shared only as the conduct of the programme needs it: with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and with the partner institutions of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 5.0, for example IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University for the arrangements of the delegates, the Central Institute of Indian Languages for the review of research papers, and the bank for the payment of the stipend. It is not sold, not used for any commercial purpose, and not given to anyone else unless the law requires it.

Security

• The portal is reached over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
• Bank account numbers and Aadhaar numbers are stored encrypted.
• Only authorised staff of CICT and its partners can see applications, each only as far as their role requires, and their actions are recorded.
• Uploaded photographs and documents are never shown to the public.

How long it is kept

For as long as the programme, its accounts and its audit need it, and then as the record rules of the Government of India require.
